Redbud

The Redbud has many hearts.

Each heart-shaped leaf plays its part

in the life of the tree.

Death comes with the fall.

Days shorten; the end begins

as hearts turn coppery-red;

as sunsets reach for nights;

as leaves begin to tumble

and scatter

across barren open ground.

And beauty ends with winter winds

until spring comes again.
