“Creation Song”

You can lament,

but you can also create.

You can think of the monarch butterflies

dying on their way to Mexico.

You can think about spoiled food;

you can lament.

But you could also feed the garden.

You could also write a eulogy.

You can notice — aloud — the stores

that put out the Christmas stuff

when it’s only October;

you can lament.

But you can also decorate the tree

on December 24th,

26th, even,

if you’d like to stick it to the man.

You can lament,

but about creation?
